Last Tuesday evening, Rotterdam Ahoy was entirely dedicated to connection, hospitality, and togetherness. With the special dinner 'Zuid Schuift Aan', Ahoy welcomed residents from Rotterdam-Zuid for a carefree and festive evening. Guests were invited in collaboration with, among others, the Voedselbank, the Gemeente Rotterdam, and Stichting Zie Hart van Zuid.
Upon arrival, guests were warmly welcomed by Ahoy staff and immediately felt at home.
The evening was opened by Jolanda Jansen, Director of Ahoy. In her welcome speech, she emphasized the importance of a strong relationship with the neighbourhood: "This evening is a great example of that: coming together, getting to know each other better, and strengthening engagement.”
More than 450 visitors enjoyed a fully catered three-course dinner, carefully prepared by Ahoy’s chefs and served by Ahoy staff. Between courses, guests were surprised with performances that added to the festive atmosphere. Manq Carrot delivered an intimate and warm musical performance, while dance group Free to Move energized the audience with an uplifting show.
The combination of good food, entertainment, and genuine attention created a relaxed setting in which connection and interaction emerged naturally.
Children were also well entertained, with activities such as crafts, face painting, and a magician. The evening concluded with a festive raffle, featuring prizes provided by Ahoy and Winkelcentrum Zuidplein.
As one visitor beautifully expressed: "Everything was thoughtfully arranged: from guidance to our seats to the excellent food. We felt very welcome and everything was carefully and hospitably organized, including for different dietary needs. The children enjoyed the activities and our expectations were exceeded. In short, everyone in our group found it a very successful event that is definitely worth repeating.”
The dinner was created in close collaboration with the Voedselbank, the Gemeente Rotterdam, and Stichting Zie Hart van Zuid. In addition, various partners of Rotterdam Ahoy contributed to the evening, including in the areas of technology, decoration, catering, and hospitality.
With this dinner, Rotterdam Ahoy demonstrates that it is more than just an event venue. It is a place where people come together, where connection is central, and where there is space for social engagement. The evening concluded with grateful guests and a warm sense of togetherness. In doing so, one of the goals of Stichting Zie Hart van Zuid bringing people closer together came to life in a meaningful way.
