Hotel to be completed in Q3 of this year
Construction of the 250-room ibis Styles hotel is running on schedule and reached its highest point last week. Construction will be completed in a few months, and the hotel will be ready for its first guests this autumn.
The hotel’s highest point was officially marked on 16 February with a plaque placed by Chantal Zeegers, the councillor for Climate, Construction and Housing. Rotterdam Ahoy celebrated this milestone with European real estate developer Foruminvest, representatives of Accor, HR Group, Municipality of Rotterdam, contractor BOBgroep and many other parties involved. The hotel will have the ibis Styles label (Accor) and is on a long-term lease to the German HR Group. Completion is scheduled for right after this year’s summer holidays.
The construction of the hotel is part of the Hart van Zuid area development, which aims to enhance the quality of the Zuidplein area. A pleasant, healthy and sustainable living environment is being created with space for leisure, work, housing, shopping and socialising. The goal is a new vibrant city centre for Rotterdam Zuid.
The arrival of the hotel next to Rotterdam Ahoy is a fantastic addition to Hart van Zuid. The area around Zuidplein is growing into a full-scale centre for the 210,000 residents of Zuid and visitors worldwide. The hotel invites you to stay in this new centre and enjoy everything it has to offer for longer. The hotel is being built with an eye to the future with high insulation values, a roof full of solar panels and heating with surplus heat from Rotterdam’s industry sector.

Jolanda Jansen, CEO of Rotterdam Ahoy: "Rotterdam Ahoy has wanted a hotel next to its event location for many years. With the recently opened Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre and the music and theatre venue RTM Stage running at full capacity and attracting many extra visitors, the demand for this hotel has only increased. So we are delighted that its realisation has progressed so well with all parties concerned and that the hotel will be opening this autumn.”
Aerjen Koeneman, director of Foruminvest: "Foruminvest is developing various hotels in the Netherlands and abroad. Realising this extensive new-build hotel with an international label in cooperation with strong partners typifies our approach to hotel developments. The high demand for hotel rooms at Ahoy combined with the location’s easy access give this hotel an excellent foundation for success.”
