ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament becomes ABN AMRO Open

ABN AMRO Open is the new name for the ATP 500 Tournament in Rotterdam Ahoy. The wheelchair tennis tournament, which is held simultaneously, also continues under the title. The name change is the start of the run-up to the 50th edition, which will take place from 11 to 19 February 2023.

Tournament Director Richard Krajicek:

"In recent years we have conducted extensive research into the significance of the tournament for sports fans in the Netherlands. Very helpful insights emerged here. In addition to the unique combination of top tennis and top wheelchair tennis under the same roof, the side events of the tournament particularly stand out. It is a sporting event where everyone feels welcome. We want to emphasize this open character even more.”

The wheelchair tennis tournament, with its fifteenth edition in 2023, will also continue under the name ABN AMRO Open. Esther Vergeer, Tournament Director of the wheelchair tennis tournament: "It is a logical next step in the integration of the two tournaments. We've been playing in the same week for 15 years, with the same facilities and with the same fans, now both tournaments also share their name."

On Top of Tennis

The ABN AMRO Open has long been known for the many activities around the tennis courts. From active sports to business networking and from top entertainment to star restaurants, it can all be found in Rotterdam Ahoy during the tournament week. It comes together under the heading 'On Top of Tennis'.

"We want to promote this unique aspect more. Top tennis remains at the heart of the ABN AMRO Open, but we also offer many extras, making us a versatile event for everyone: business and private, young and old, sporty and socially interested. Especially after two years without or with a limited audience, it feels extra good to completely open,"

Richard Krajicek.

History

ABN AMRO Open is the third name for the tournament. From the beginning in 1974 it was organized as ABN Toernooi. After the merger between ABN Bank and AMRO Bank in 1991, the tournament was called ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. In 2009, the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, the wheelchair tennis tournament that takes place simultaneously in Rotterdam Ahoy, was added to this.
