New milestone in renovation of Rotterdam Ahoy exhibition halls19 july 2017
Following the culmination of the successful Port of Rotterdam North Sea Jazz Festival, Rotterdam Ahoy is on the eve of a new milestone in the ambitious renovation of its Exhibition & Event halls. The upper corridor between Halls 2 through 5 will be completely removed. The Hart van Zuid building consortium (Heijmans and Ballast Nedam) will spend nine weeks working on demolishing the entire structure. The deadline for the end of the construction work is set in stone - the halls need to open by 13 September for the Gastvrij Rotterdam trade fair.
The renovation of the Exhibition and Event halls has been under way for several months now and a great deal of progress has been made. The exterior wall of Halls 2 and 4 has been shifted, creating 1,200 extra square metres of floor space The buffet catering establishments and the sanitary facilities have been revamped and the halls have been equipped with dimmable LED lighting. New curtains have been installed and the almost forty-year old dividing walls have been replaced with new, modern walls. The old air treatment units have been replaced with new, sustainable technology, reducing energy consumption and creating a more comfortable environment for visitors. During the coming months work will continue on completing the renovations to the interior and exterior of the halls.
Hart van Zuid
The renovation of the halls and the arrival of the conference and meeting centre are part of the large-scale Hart van Zuid area development, a qualitative transformation that will result in the creation of a new, vibrant city centre in Rotterdam Zuid. The envisioned new area will be a place where people will enjoy spending their time, a place where residents, visitors and business people will feel completely at home. The area development will create added societal value for Zuid and for Rotterdam in general: more quality, more employment and better facilities.
