UB40: Celebrating 45 years of UB40

The British band UB40 will celebrate a double anniversary in Rotterdam Ahoy on Friday, December 1, 2023. This year, the band celebrates its 45th anniversary and it is the 30th time they are performing live on stage at a venue in Rotterdam. UB40's energetic performances are still 'a trip down memory lane' and a celebration for fans of the reggae hits 'Kingston Town, '(I Can't Help) Falling in Love With You' and of course 'Red, Red Wine'.

Best Reggae Album

Formed in 1978, UB40's name refers to the "Unemployment Benefit Form 40," the form that English unemployed people had to use to apply for unemployment benefits. After the first album "Signing Off" (1980), the band members were able to permanently deregister from the local UWV. Indeed, since then the group released eighteen studio and four live albums and the Birmingham-based band climbed the international charts with more than fifty singles. UB40 received four Grammy nominations for Best Reggae Album and sold more than one hundred million records worldwide. UB40's lineup includes "founding members" Jimmy Brown (drums), Robin Campbell (co-lead vocals/guitar), Earl Falconer (bass/vocals) and Norman Hassan (percussion/vocals), plus Matt Doyle (lead vocals, since Duncan quit in June 2021), Martin Meredith (sax/keys), Laurence Parry (trumpet) and Tony Mullings (keys).
