05 february 2020

Recently Hart van Zuid, the building consortium Heijmans/Ballast Nedam, the municipality of Rotterdam and Rotterdam Ahoy signed a contract with European real estate developer Foruminvest for a new hotel with 250 rooms on the site of Rotterdam Ahoy. In 2022 the international hotel chain will open its doors.

The construction of the hotel is part of the area development Hart van Zuid, the area around Ahoy and metro station Zuidplein. The Exhibition & Events halls of Rotterdam Ahoy were modernized in 2018. In the end of 2020, the new Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre and the music and theatre hall RTM Stage will be opened. A hotel has always been a big wish of Ahoy. Jolanda Jansen, Director of Rotterdam Ahoy, says: "We are delighted that after a long start-up process we have put our final signatures to this collaboration. With the arrival of the hotel, this area will really become a new hotspot in the city".

Aerjen Koeneman, Director Foruminvest: "We are proud to be able to contribute to this area development with our hotel expertise. We are developing a modern hotel with 250 rooms to get an international hotel chain. The hotel will connect with both the business and leisure markets.

Dick Laheij, on behalf of Hart van Zuid: "The hotel development is a crucial step in the development of the area. It will strengthen the quality and grade of life in this important centre in the South. We are very pleased with the good cooperation between all partners".

Onno Dwars, Director Ballast Nedam Development adds: "Everything is settled to take the next step in the special and large-scale area development of Rotterdam-South. We are very pleased with this development. The hotel will contribute to the quality of life and diversity in Hart van Zuid. A place that is changing from a place to be to a place to love".

Jos Melchers, Area Development Director of the Municipality of Rotterdam concludes: "Hart van Zuid is growing into a fully-fledged central area. From the 200,000 inhabitants in the South to visitors all over the world. The realisation of the Rotterdam Swimming Centre, the Art Building, the Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre and a cinema will make it possible to do all sorts of things. The arrival of the hotel is a great addition for a longer stay in this new centre".
